Journalism as a cooperative: an afternoon in Germantown.
Maceo on Maplewood Mall in Germantown, just out of the Germantown Music Studio, with Omar. The thanks first: “Shout out to Jerry. Shout out to Connie. Shout out to the library. Shout out to Omar.” Then a coincidence he cannot get over: he met someone whose son is named Maceo. “I don’t know anybody with anybody named Maceo in their life.”
He calls the afternoon “divine timing,” says he took a lot of notes, and lands on the sentence that belongs on the mission page: “We’re coming for international journalism as a cooperative, and I’m finding all my inspiration exactly where I need to.” Omar’s minute from the same walk is the companion piece linked below. The transcript below is from the original audio.
