A DAO for Black liberation, and the petrodollar.

Shot on 25 September 2026.

Milan came to Day 1 of the Black Blockchain Summit 2026 at Howard University after seeing an ad on Facebook. He is not a Howard student. He is from California, where studying politics led him into blockchain. He calls his focus sovereignty within your community, and has started his own DAO, THP, which he says stands for the healing paradigm. He describes a four-tier, education-based governance structure, a shared treasury and a currency he calls scrip, all enforced by smart contracts rather than trust. Maceo puts Kamal Hubbard’s question to him: is DeFi still a liberatory technology for Black people? Milan answers with his own account of decentralized finance, the 1971 end of the gold standard, the petrodollar, and the GENIUS Act, plus a claim about Vice President JD Vance and de-dollarization, his own reading of a video he saw, not a sourced quote. He closes on real hope, on the show’s closing question, and spells his name for the record.

0:00AAll right, so what’s everybody? My name is Maceo, founder of We Them Media. Where are we at today?

0:05BShit, we at Howard University.

0:08BFor the Black Blockchain Summit.

0:10AAll right, man. And what’s your name?

0:11BMilan.

0:12AAnd how’d you find your way here today?

0:14BI actually seen the ad on Facebook, and it’s just in alignment with my movement I’m pushing.

0:20ASo okay, tell us about yourself and your movement.

0:22BMy name is Milan. I’m originally from California, basically. I just got a -- it’s just in me. I’m heavily interested in politics and stuff like that. So, uh, through, through my development, my self-development, I started to learn about crypto and the blockchain and how much potential it has to be able to liberate not only Black people but everybody. So I went ahead and, uh, just been studying about blockchain, crypto, and all the things that that it could do for people as far as liberation and, you know what I’m saying, freeing ourselves into a better system.

0:58ASo, uh, what does that mean to you? Like, when you talk about liberation and this, like, what is -- yeah, what would that look like?

1:03BThat’s a good question because, you know, liberation -- well, anything, anything that’s of value has a -- has its own perspective depending on who the person is, you know what I mean? But it can be shared too. But, uh, my perspective on what freedom looked like is basically sovereignty within your community. So being able to order and construct and collaborate amongst one another, that’s mainly -- that’s the -- that’s liberation to me. You know what I mean? Not having somebody above your own governance within your own community is sovereign to me. You know what I’m saying?

1:37AAnd how could crypto give us access to a new way of doing that?

1:41BSo crypto within the blockchain, so anybody could start up a DAO, which is a decentralized autonomous organization. And within, uh, and then from there you can have a governance. You can set your own rules. You could, um, basically get with your community on how you want it set up. So you can have any type of government that you would like to construct on there. So, um, you could do that.

2:07AAnd, uh, I mean, are you in any DAOs? Like, what’s like a practical example?

2:11BYeah, I mean, I started my own DAO, you know what I mean? It’s THP. That’s the initials. It’s for -- it stands for the healing paradigm, you know what I mean?

2:19AUm, so New DAO unlocked. Okay, talk about it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So basically, you know, DAOs, they’re like, they’re like hidden villages.

2:25BOh yeah, for sure, for sure. Especially right now because, you know, we’re in the development stage of all this. So, um, yeah, basically my DAO pretty much is gonna have like 4 tiers of, uh, education-based, you know what I mean, for the governance. Uh, anybody could learn their way to the top tier. The top tiers basically would be viewed as looking like the, uh, looking like what you would consider Congress now, right? Uh, but that way when you’re up there, then you’re able to like put out initiatives for everybody to vote on, but everything’s transparent. Everything’s with smart contracts. So you ain’t gotta, you ain’t gotta worry about trusting the people within your thing.

3:01BYou just gotta, you just gotta know what the smart contract is and just know it’s gonna work. So, um, yeah, everything’s transparent though. So So you know what you’re getting into before you even get into it, you know what I mean? But all in all, it’s basically pushing a more direct democracy instead of representative democracy. Because to me personally, it doesn’t make sense for a smaller group amount of people to be representing a large amount, you know what I mean? So that’s how corruption happens, and that’s why, you know what I’m saying, we kind of in the system we is today. And it’s basically a colonial, uh, empire that we under.

3:30BSo I’m just trying to break that, you know what I mean? So yeah, pretty much, man. Yeah, I mean, But, um, yeah, it’s educational tier. Um, learn your way because education is like the foundation to anything, for real, for real. That’s what Fred Hampton was pushing hella tough, and I peep game on that. So, you know, I just took a lot of bits and pieces throughout history and, uh, major Black leaders especially, and just pretty much implemented in one. But, you know, as far as making systematic change, if you really want change, it got to come with the education. If not, then, you know, like Fred Hampton said, You’re gonna have neocolonialism and just have the people that you, you live around oppress you rather than the next one up, next person that will, you know what I’m saying?

4:11BSo that’s basically what it is. It’s basically a construct. And then also that comes with a treasury. You create your own treasury, you create your own cryptocurrency that’s linked to your DAO so that your own community has its own, uh, has its own, um, currency. Currency, you know what I mean? And to even take it a step further, you know what I mean, you could, you could make it to where it’s Scrip. So a little bit of game, you know what I mean. So you could go ahead and open up a purpose trust, you know what I’m saying, that’s, that’s dedicated to community building. And then you go ahead and that purpose trust is on, got a DAO connected to it because that’s legal.

4:49BAnd you just implement the cryptocurrency as Scrip. And then after that, you, you can make it to where the only tax within the community is just transactional tax. So every time you do transactional tax, let’s say it’s 10%, okay, you take 5% and then you push it to the, um, you push that into like, uh, a treasury. And then the other 5%, you could push towards minerals or resources to back up that cryptocurrency. So look, so once you do that, you know what I’m saying, the The treasury is all transparent because it’s on a blockchain. You can’t -- nobody even tamper with it. So everybody within the DAO, no matter what tier you want, you’re able to at least vote towards where that allocates for your community.

5:33BSo it’s every time you make it a transaction, you’re literally building up your cryptocurrency for your community.

5:37AYou’re hedging for everybody.

5:38BYeah. And you’re building up your community.

5:40AYou’re hedging faster than you could alone.

5:42BYeah, for sure. So you basically able to build from the ground up with this technology. You know what I’m saying?

5:46ASo, and build your own safety net.

5:47BYeah, you can’t really lose, you know what I’m saying?

5:50ASo, and so do you feel like, uh, like, uh, we have this guy Kamal. I met him here actually a couple years ago. He interviewed me, and he has a book he wrote called DeFi for the Diaspora. Okay. And he writes our newsletter now for We Them Media.

5:59BOh, that’s good.

6:00AUm, and, you know, he researches, keeps up with the macro, what’s going on with crypto and policy. And a question he had for me to ask is, uh, do you feel like the promises of DeFi being a liberatory technology for us are still true? Is it still Is this still an opportunity for us? And if so, what does that mean?

6:14BYeah, for sure. You know, basically within the same construct and implementation that I mentioned, you know what I’m saying, just now about the DAO and the governments, because that’s the biggest thing. Once you, once you get some land and then you get your communities, basically find your tribe season. So, but the thing, so you basically do that, you get your tribe and you find your people that want to build with you. And that’s what you do. You know what I mean? Once you get the land, the only thing you got to worry about is paying, paying the people they tax, paying Uncle Sam taxes until that’s over. You know what I’m saying? But that’s another story. But outside of that, you know what I mean? You just gotta, uh, yeah, that’s the best way. Uh, wait, what was your question?

6:48ABecause I think I had just like, you know, is DeFi still a big opportunity for us? And if so, how so? And then what really is decentralized finance?

6:54BYeah, decentralized finance is basically something that’s decentralized because currently the Federal Reserve is in control of the currency and that’s pretty much global. So that’s affecting, that’s what’s creating a colonialism state. That we’re in right now globally and oppressing like the most richest resources because all they’re doing is taking one way or another, they’re taking resources from outside and basically, and basically selling them for the high. So, you know, basically doing, making it decentralized, you’re breaking the chains from allowing these countries that are funded by the IMF, by the central banking system. So you’re breaking off from that and basically building from your own from scratch. So you basically had that opportunity to do that along with other tribes, other decentralized, you know what I’m saying, communities. So that’s basically what you have. Now the problem is, you know, they just passed the GENIUS Act because the, the, uh, US is trying to peg the dollar so that it’s -- yeah.

7:54ASo what does that mean? Huh? What does that mean, depeg the dollar?

7:57BSo they’re trying to -- no, they’re trying to, they trying to, they trying to peg it to a stablecoin. So it’s -- they Like right now, ever since 1971, after they, they took out the gold standard, you know, once they took away the -- you being able to turn your cash into gold, then they made it fiat currency, which means there’s no value behind it. So what they did, well, after that is they used -- they pegged it. They went to Saudi Arabia, made a deal for the oil, and then they pegged their dollar to the oil.

8:24AThat’s the petrodollar.

8:25BYeah. So once they did that, they was able to leverage that with the other countries to be able to, you know what I’m saying, oppress them, be like, hey, nah, If you don’t, if you don’t, if you don’t use this dollar, then, you know, the resources and all this other stuff is going to affect you.

8:38ASo that’s how a lot of trade happens in dollars, right? Yeah.

8:41BAnd that’s why the American dollar is so powerful, you know what I mean? So, and that’s why we in Iran right now. But --

8:47AOh wait, so what’s that about? Elaborate on that because that’s like a -- you just --

8:50BIt’s a lot of game right now.

8:52AYeah, that’s why I’m here for the high context people like yourself to teach us.

8:55BYeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, um, Yeah, pretty much.

8:59AEach one teach one.

9:00BYeah, yeah, for sure. That’s how it’s supposed to go, man. But yeah, so pretty much what was the question? Oh, about Iran. I can’t really get too much into Iran, you know what I mean? I just know that the resources there is oil, and that’s, that’s the best resource that is, is modern right now for power, which is so essential to power everything, and it’s the most reliant. So, and there’s an abundance of it. So because of the current infrastructure is already built on that, they’re gonna continuously look to, uh, expand that, you know what I mean? So they’re basically copy and pasting what they’ve been doing for, for years.

9:41ASo yeah, yeah, but yeah, seeing where they can go and get it and going and getting --

9:43Bthat’s why we’re in there. They talking about nuclear. They don’t want them to have no nuclear war, man. No nuclear, uh, weapons, man. I don’t see them going in China and running nothing. I don’t see them going to North Korea and trying to try nothing, you know what I’m saying? So you, man, you already know that’s That’s not it. But yeah, man, that’s pretty much, that’s pretty much it, man. Yeah. But did I answer your question though?

10:03AOh, you answered it, man. You just dropped so much game. This is the best 10 minutes of my day. I’ve been teaching people all day, right? But you just taught me a lot. So it’s really, um, that’s why I’m here, man, to let -- to give a platform to hear what Black people have to say to other Black people, right? Where we can learn. You know, I’ve been teaching people from what I know, but you know, you’re even helping me better understand, like, that whole petrodollar stuff isn’t still really stuff I have a concrete understanding of, right? Yeah. But I understand, well, that it’s dangerous if we see hyperinflation and I’m not -- all I got is dollars.

10:29BAnd you know the inflation thing, you know, the economy keeps going up and crashing, but you know, they passed the GENIUS Act because they’re trying to push a stablecoin. So what they’re doing is they’re intentionally crashing the, the, the currency, the American dollar, so that they could, they could slowly incentivize people to buy into stablecoins. Because if the American dollar ain’t shit and then they end up just having, you you have to like pay for something, but then they say, oh well, you’re gonna need a stablecoin because the US dollar isn’t worth nothing. Then what? You don’t end up having to push it. So that’s what they pushing. So that’s why like we kind of on like a --

11:05AThey turn off cash and say, now we operate on a Bitcoin-backed dollar on-chain.

11:09BYeah, pretty much. And, and you see, and they was talking about in there, you know what I mean, like how, how they be, uh, you got all these big companies and stuff like that buying into it. And you know, lobbying is a major thing in America.

11:21AIt’s the Last year, this time, everything was, uh, uh, Stand With Crypto at Union Station. Huh? Last year at Union Station, every sign in there says Stand With Crypto.

11:29BWait, it said Stand With Crypto?

11:31AYeah, like, Stand With Crypto is like the big crypto lobbying platform here in the US.

11:35BOh snap, I didn’t hear about that. I gotta check into that.

11:38AYeah, yeah, but I’m just saying they had, they had ads all over DC when I came last year for this conference. Oh yeah, so I’m saying crypto lobbying was visible everywhere.

11:45BYeah, yeah, but see, but you know, the, the main thing about the laws with crypto is it’s only set in place for the government to be able to get involved and control it some way or another. But the problem is they can’t control it. So the GENIUS Act, like, they, they implemented because, oh, they’re like, they were saying, oh, crypto’s bad until they learned a way to be able to tax it. Oh, so now it’s all the GENIUS Act.

12:07AWe’re gonna --

12:08Bwe’re trying to move to crypto now. We’re trying to move to -- like, it’s, it’s really just a money thing.

12:12AYou heard JD Vance talk about de-dollarization?

12:16BDe-dollarization? JD Vance? Nah.

12:18AHe was saying that we might need to give up our reserve currency status. It might be necessary.

12:22BGive up the current reserve status?

12:25AOf the US dollar. He said we might need to move away from that.

12:27BWait, who is that?

12:28AJD Vance is the vice president.

12:29BOh, okay.

12:30AOf US.

12:31BOh, okay. Got you, got you, got you, got you. Yeah, my bad.

12:34AIt’s okay. I only know because of the video. Like, I’m not gonna lie.

12:38BHey, but I did, I did recently see about, uh, the video, the, the chairman for the, uh, Federal Reserve, and he was talking about how we gonna need a global economic reset. Yeah, stuff like that.

12:48ASo that’s what I’m saying, they’re talking about some -- the time, the day is coming, Judgment Day must come. That’s what it’s feeling like. I’m like, what are you talking about, man? It mean --

12:56Bit’s really -- I mean, when you think about it though, for real, man, I wish they sound like they would propose something, some solution that feels hopeful.

13:02AThat would be a great reset. There’s no hope in great reset.

13:05BYeah, no, no, absolutely not. I mean, the real hope is, you know what I’m saying, people, uh, waking the hell up about what we have available And saying, okay, well, this is what we could do, and it’s better than the direction that this government is sending us in. That’s probably the best thing you can do is confide within yourself and your community and building with them, because the tools is there. Imagine if Malcolm X had these type of tools, or Fred Hampton had these type of tools.

13:30AAmen.

13:31BOr Martin Luther had these type of tools.

13:32AAI agents. Yeah.

13:34BOh man, AI agents, a whole different story, man. That’s how I -- man, I can’t wait to get mine up and running, man. Man, I ain’t gonna lie, hey, it’s, it’s, it’s a tool, man, you know what I’m saying? So what you gonna do, you just gonna, uh, let it pass you by, or you gonna step up to the, to the time that we living in and capitalize off it, you know what I’m saying?

13:51AYeah, exactly, man. You’re gonna get fucked by capitalism or capitalizing the opportunity.

13:54BOh man, man, I’m so tired of capitalization, man, because capitalization ain’t nothing but political or economic structure that’s by private owners for profit, man. That don’t make no sense for an economy, bro. It don’t make no sense for an economy, but you know.

14:10ASo I got 2 more things. If you could ask people around the world one question, what would you ask them?

14:14BUm, if you, if you were to do something without money being involved, what would it be? You know what I mean? Like, if money didn’t exist, what would you do? You know what I’m saying? To contribute to the people that you care about or your community, like Without just out of love, you know what I mean? And outside of that, another question for people I’d ask, I say, I don’t know what’s your purpose, you know what I mean? And if you ain’t got one, find it, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, for sure.

15:00AYeah. Why should people make the trip out here to the Black Blockchain Summit next year?

15:04BUm, because I see it constantly growing. Um, I see it having a direction to go somewhere, and there ain’t really nothing of this magnitude that’s really happening in America, you know what I’m saying? But the blockchain is being more prevalent, and the more people that are starting to lead within the blockchain community and stuff like that, decentralization, It’s going to continue to grow and it’s going to shift. It’s going to shift the paradigm. The blockchain, the blockchain is here and the future is here. It’s now. Things are already changing. So it’s -- this is only going to pick up. We’re in the early development stage, you know what I’m saying? So you better get in where you fit in when time comes or get in now. You know what I mean?

15:52AAnd then I told you I used to have a podcast called We Them Niggas, and I’ve been asking people today, we them niggas or no?

15:58BYeah, yeah, we for sure them niggas, man.

16:02AOkay, and elaborate on that take. Why, why you feel comfortable saying that?

16:05BUh, about what exactly?

16:08AAbout -- but yeah, you -- what, we them niggas resonates with you in some capacity?

16:11BOh, for me? Yeah, exactly, man. Because I’m the man with the plan, you know what I’m saying? Shit, man, as long as I’m putting something in the air where it’s fair, you know what I’m saying, then I’ll take you there. But you know what I’m saying, if I -- if you hear me saying something, you know what I’m saying, If you hear me saying something, you don’t pick it up, then it’s your loss because there’s money on the ground. You know what I’m saying? So pick up what I’m putting down. Yeah, for sure.

16:33AAll right.

16:33BI appreciate that, man.

16:35AAnd I think that I think those are all my questions. So I appreciate you. You say it one more time. Milan. Milan.

16:42BYeah.

16:42AHow you spell it?

16:43BM I L A N like the city Italy.

16:46AOkay. Boom. You know what I’m saying? Yeah.
