Maritza, in Acapulco, with señor César Salazar on the anniversary of his temazcal practice: “estoy con el señor César Salazar y él nos va a platicar del aniversario que cumplió la práctica del Temazcal.” A companion to her earlier piece with him, this one is about how he arrived. In Spanish.
He did not come from medicine. “Yo siempre he sido comerciante, soy hijo de comerciantes.” He had a sports shop in Acapulco, “puse mi negocio particular aquí en Acapulco de tienda de deportes,” and the shop is where the illness started. “Llegó el momento que mi esposa se empezó a enfermar de estrés, porque cuando tiene uno un negocio, la mente siempre está más activa.” Someone told him to take a steam bath: “Alguien me dijo que tomara, que fuera a tomar un baño de vapor.” That bath has a name here, and another name to the north. “En Estados Unidos, los sitios americanos se llaman Inipi.” He does not claim the temazcal is exclusively Mexican, “no sé si sea originario exclusivamente de México,” but “nosotros los mexicanos lo hemos adoptado.” The work he describes is a rescue: “Al rescate de las tradiciones.”
Filmed by Maritza in Acapulco, Mexico. The transcript below is his own words in Spanish rather than a translation.
