Indie News Network’s Colin Radix-Carter and Reef Breeland interviewed Dwayne Wong (Omowale) for their show, in an episode released as INN News #161. Dwayne traced his Pan-African outlook to his upbringing in Guyana, his mother’s ties to the Caribbean’s Black Power era, and turning points including the Haiti earthquake, the slave rebellions led by Nat Turner and Cuffee, and the 2014 uprisings in Ferguson, Haiti and Burkina Faso.
Dwayne discussed the 2017 uprising against Togo’s dictator Faure Gnassingbé, the book he wrote about it, his outreach to Togolese activist Farida Nabourema, and his letter to President Biden about the situation. He addressed a public disagreement with a Black Agenda Report writer over that alliance, then turned to Pan-Africanism against the ADOS and FBA movements, cuts to US aid in Africa, Russia and China’s role on the continent, reparations, Black Lives Matter’s lack of central organization, and why he adopted the name Omowale after studying Yoruba history.
