Dwayne identifies the Hamitic myth as the curse of Ham, saying it is not in the Bible and was invented to justify enslaving Africans. He explains that hadiths are sayings attributed to Muhammad but are not part of the Quran. He says Islam’s Arab origins pressure African converts to adopt Arabic language and identity to be seen as fully Muslim. Asked about Uthman dan Fodio’s eighteenth century jihad in West Africa, he confirms it and says jihads in African history have targeted not only non-Muslims but Muslims judged insufficiently Arabized.
