Freestyle and the question of the week.

Answers What made you smile today? · see how other cities answered →

Three minutes on stage at Andrew Callaghan’s Channel 5 Carnival in Denver: a Philadelphian introduces We Them Media to the room, asks the host the question of the week, and then, over a lo-fi beat from a phone, freestyles.

The introduction is the pitch in one go: “I have a platform called We Them Media. We’ve been putting up questions every week on like a crypto bounty board and having people around the world go out and ask questions. This week’s question was, what’s something that made you smile this week? So, Andrew, what’s something that made you smile this week?”

Callaghan’s own answer does not survive the room’s audio; the filmmaker’s does, and it is about family: five weeks in Denver for a conference, going home Thursday, “and I’m excited to see my niece and nephew.” Then the ask: “can I freestyle, can I freestyle?” The beat request is specific, “if you have a lo-fi, royalty-free, hip-hop beat from the internet,” and the verse that follows works in the second time on this stage, Pittsburgh in 2023, the bounty programme, and Nigeria’s electricity crisis.

The room’s question for the world comes from the freestyle itself: what do people outside America think about America? Filmed from the floor by We Them Media at the Paramount Theatre stop of the Carnival tour, July 2026.

0:02We’ve got two more. Welcome to the stage, man. I appreciate it. My name is Maceo. Maceo, where are you from, man? I’m from Philly. Hell yeah, me too. Fuck yeah. What are you doing today? I’m out here. I was outside shooting interviews, like you on the street, asking people what they think about you, how they found out about Channel 5. I have a platform called We Them Media. We’ve been putting up questions every week on like a crypto bounty board and having people around the world go out and ask questions. This week’s question was, what’s something that made you smile this week? So, Andrew, what’s something that made you smile this week?

1:03Something that made me smile, man, I’ve been in Denver five weeks, I came out here for a conference, and I’m going back home on Thursday. and I’m excited to see my niece and nephew. I’ve been like away from them and I saw them on Zoom on Sunday Yeah, and I feel like it made my whole week Best of luck man, can I freestyle, can I freestyle? And you wanna freestyle? Yeah, yeah, yeah I think people are a bit tired of six foot, seven foot, so BJ, if you have a lo-fi, royalty-free, hip-hop beat from the internet Can you play that real quick? Can I have a beat on my phone?

1:29Yeah, that works Hell yeah Can I hear you this? Yeah, sure Fuck yeah And if you could ask people around the world one more question, what do you ask them? Uh, what? It’s not me, it’s your time Okay, he said, you can’t put me on the spot, fuck yeah, y’all hear that, you can hear it, yeah, okay, 2023, I was with this dude in Pittsburgh, with Funky Close and my bro, Isaac, now I’m at Channel 5 again, in 2026 in Denver, I don’t come in this district, but I’m up in this district, and you know I’ll wrap it up, ooh, but I’m not done yet, that last guy went, for like eight minutes, I said, is he finished, he said, no, so,

2:22It’s like Andrew said, it’s time to go Now I’m on a stage, taking up my own time, on a roll Yeah, I said, what’s your question for the fucking world? Somebody else I said, what they think about America outside of America I said, that’s a good fucking question What do they think about America? The world’s like going to war and shit, they’re blaming us I don’t know if you guys know, but apparently Most people in Nigeria last month only had 20 hours of electricity That’s fucking crazy And that’s because gas prices are going up And their whole electric grid runs on gasoline that shit is fucked. Hope you guys enjoy this shit and run me up on YouTube with Nvidia. Check me out. Thank you very much.
