Coffee on the blockchain. Project Mocha.
A Kenyan founder explains how blockchain financing reaches coffee farmers, and how somebody who drinks coffee becomes somebody who invests in growing it. Filmed at the Bybit Content Creator Connect at Antler, Nairobi.
Peter Miner is co-founder of Project Mocha, which was serving the coffee at the event. His pitch is specific about who the technology is for: “We are introducing financing to coffee farmers through blockchain. So introducing farmers to blockchain, and having Bybit walk this journey with us, would be fantastic.”
The model, in his words: “We’re creating opportunity for coffee consumers to become coffee investors by directly investing into coffee farms.”
It is a short conversation and an unusually concrete one. Most crypto pitches at an event like this are about the technology. This one is about a crop, the people who grow it, and who gets to hold a stake in the harvest.
