“Bring our people home”: on focusing overseas instead of here.

Answers What is the most important global issue today? and If you could ask the whole world one question, what would it be? · see how other cities answered →

Asked to name the biggest problem in the world, a man in Denver names American foreign policy, and argues the money and attention should be pointed inward instead.

“I’d say the biggest problem right now is thinking the bigger problems are outside of our country, and focusing on international interests instead of helping the people here.”

Pressed on what he means: “For far too long we’ve been interested in oil and resources and making money outside of the US, and we’ve got to get back to focusing on our people and our country.”

Asked what he would point somebody at if they wanted to look into it, he does not reach for a source. He reaches for the view out the window. “Look at the climate of your state, of how things are where you’re at. And the fact that we’ve got all these people fighting this unnecessary war. So we’ve got to bring our guys home.”

Then the second question, the one this whole format is built around: if you could ask everybody in the world one thing in the next seven days, what would you want to know?

His answer: “What do you love about life?”

Filmed for a weekly poidh bounty. That question, and that format, is what One Question grew into.
