Dwayne Wong (Omowale) joined fellow scholar Gerald Perreira on Wise The Dome TV to discuss Pan-Africanism, from anti-immigrant violence in South Africa to France’s shrinking influence in Africa and democracy in the United States.
On South Africa, Dwayne argued that recent attacks on African migrants are not proof Pan-Africanism fails, but a symptom of the neocolonial class that took power after apartheid instead of the more revolutionary vision held by Steve Biko, Chris Hani, Robert Sobukwe, and Winnie Mandela. He traced a similar pattern in France’s weakening hold on Senegal and Togo, and in the redistricting of Black-majority congressional districts in the United States, which he linked to the Supreme Court’s history of undoing rights African Americans won during Reconstruction and the civil rights era.
He closed on the Jeffrey Epstein files and a call to separate genuine Pan-Africanists from those who avoid confronting power to protect their own visas and assets.
