This is a July 2018 broadcast of Steel Pan Vibes, It’s More Than Music, a radio show on WWBC 1510 AM in Florida, hosted by Miss B. Most of the hour is calypso on steel pan. In the spotlight segment, from about 35:30, Dwayne is the guest interviewer. The host notes he had written 17 books by then.
He talks with returning guest Alexandra Ducksworth, a music student. She says coping skills should be taught to children, and speaks about self-hatred, colorism and learning to value her hair. She says many movements in America were pushed forward by Black women, and that girls need to learn about women in history.
Dwayne closes with two steel pan questions. He notes that young men of African descent in Trinidad and Tobago invented the pan after the British colonial government banned African drums. Ducksworth calls herself a rebel with a million causes and describes the handpan.
