DISPATCH 001: A Brief From Maceo

The We Them News

Hello everyone, Maceo here!

You’re reading this because you believed in what we’re building at We Them Media and decided to support us. I’m genuinely grateful for that.

ETHConf: where Wall Street met crypto

This summer, I spent time at ETHConf 2026 in Manhattan, the Ethereum conference that captured a defining moment: crypto and traditional finance finally in the same room.

But here’s what made our coverage different: I didn’t just stay at the venue.

I went to Times Square first. I asked over 100 regular New Yorkers their biggest questions about crypto, finance, and money. Then I took their authentic questions, unfiltered, real, from people who had no crypto background, directly to the experts and builders at the conference.

This format captures something I’ve been studying for years: what does positive economic transformation through blockchain actually look like? Not the hype. The reality.

Not just for crypto nerds

If blockchain isn’t your thing, I’ve got content for you too.

100+ voices from Denver

Earlier this year, I hit the streets of Denver and interviewed over 100 people. I asked them about the biggest global issues, what’s happening in their city and state. People had a lot to say.

I also sat down with fans of independent journalism at a Channel 5 event. This taught me what people actually value in media, and how I can do better.

Estonia’s blockchain revolution

One of my favorite projects explores blockchain’s progressive history in Estonia.

Estonia isn’t just a tech startup story. They’re one of the most digitally advanced societies in the world, using blockchain to build digital government services, create a thriving e-Residency program, and establish digital interoperability most countries are only dreaming about.

It’s proof that blockchain can solve real problems at scale.

What’s coming

Nigeria tech residency. We captured major content at a tech residency in Nigeria. This is what our subscribers and supporters get first.

Global street interviews. Community-driven content from Nigeria and the USA is in the works, bringing you direct perspectives on how technology and finance are actually evolving around the world.

The reality of independent media

I’ve been working on this project for 5 years. Wild to even say that.

We’ve got a team now: editors, creators, reporters. And we’re investing $1,000 a month to keep it all running: editing, social media, and growing what we’re building.

The support you’re giving me directly enables:

  • Quality video production and editing
  • Our social media reaching more people
  • Paying the team that makes this happen
  • Travel to global locations to tell these stories

We’re building We Them Media toward something bigger: a community-driven, public interest media platform. That means you’re not just consuming content, you’re helping build the future of independent journalism.

This summer’s best moment

Times Square, controversial opinions, 100% chaos.

We filmed a fun video where we asked New Yorkers for their most controversial takes. My friend and fellow reporter Isaac helped bring this one to life. It was a blast.

Meet Kamal

Going forward, I won’t be writing these dispatches alone. Kamal is coming in to co-author the newsletter.

He’s a lawyer I met at the Black Blockchain summit at Howard University years ago. He’s been writing about blockchain and AI for several years: sharp perspective, clear thinking, the voice we need.

I’m thrilled to have him bring his lens to keep you updated.

The team behind the scenes

I want to give a huge shout out to Gift, Bayo, and Kafani, the people working on this day by day.

They’re handling editing, strategy, posting, and everything that makes this operation run. We meet weekly on Mondays and Fridays at 9am to start and close the week.

I’m grateful to put my trust in them. This work doesn’t happen without their dedication.

Support We Them Media

Here’s what I’m asking: if you believe in what we’re doing, help us keep it going.

Every donation offsets our costs so we can stay independent and focused on the stories that matter. Whether it’s $5 or $500, it makes a difference.

Become a supporter →

Thank you for being here. Your support, whether it’s subscribing, sharing our content, or donating, makes all of this possible.

I’m pumped for what’s coming next.
