George Fourlas, associate professor of applied ethics at Hampshire College, asks how Middle Eastern and North African peoples came to be racialized, and what a solidarity between them and other subjugated peoples would take. He ties orientalism, racism and colonialism to the way the Middle East was imagined and sorted, and he treats solidarity as an open-ended practice, not a blueprint.
