No Kings: Del Gomez on empire.

Five and a half minutes at the No Kings protest in Denver with a man who gives his name and spells it for the camera: “my name is Del Gomez. That’s D-E-L-G-O-M-E-Z.”

Asked to explain the day for anyone who does not know what it is, he does: “today is a protest called No Kings. It’s kind of like a worldwide protest, actually, that’s protesting Trump, who claims to be the king of this, the democratic, prime country of the world.”

What follows is his argument, and the piece publishes it as his rather than as ours. He frames it as a question of empire rather than of one man, and is careful to separate the country from the people running it -- “not me, but those people, the people that have hijacked our government”.

The opening thirty seconds are kept in as well, because they are the job: a camera being set up, a subject asking “just cut out the vape, okay, please do that for me”, and an interviewer admitting he is winging the shot. The request was honoured in the edit.

This is one voice at one protest, recorded because he was willing to give it. It is not the channel’s position and it is not presented as the only one.

0:29Oh, are we still rolling? Just cut out the vape. Okay, please do that for me. Oh, yeah, for sure, for sure. Okay. That is my request. Yeah, look right. 45 seconds into this thing. Okay, cool.

0:46I’m just forgetting if this is my gutter side or not, but we’re going to just wing it. Okay, so go ahead and just look at me, just ignore the camera. For my first question, could you just tell me your first and last name and spill it out? Yeah, my name is Del Gomez. That’s D-E-L-G-O-M-E-Z. Okay, great. Okay, so for my first question, just, you know, for those who are unaware about the significance of today, if you could just maybe recap that for people who are unaware. So today is a protest called No Kings. It’s kind of like a worldwide protest, actually, that’s protesting Trump, who claims to be the king of this, the democratic, prime country of the world, obviously not so much anymore, but it’s what that represents globally, to the point where imperialism, it’s gotten so bad that we are literally, not me, but those people,

1:32The people that have hijacked our government, our government, are literally bombing people, killing leaders, just straight up mass carpet bombing hundreds of innocent little girls for some religious war that nobody gives a fuck about, it’s obviously a scam, so in other words, keep it short, they are basically willing to sacrifice the peace and safety of the entire planet just to forward their stupid political goals, and so we’re not having it, basically, that’s what today’s all about. Now, I’m just wondering, is there any experience or serious experiences that has led you up to this opinion of the overall view of it? Yeah, I mean, obviously there’s the mainstream news, and I try to be very mindful of, like, psychological operations and whatnot,

2:16but, you know, assuming that the war in Iran is real, and we did actually accidentally kill, you know, a hundred plus innocent little girls for some political guligan that nobody agreed to, this is not a legal war, we did not vote for it, and they’re using our tax dollars to fund it. If that’s true, then I think we have the right to be here. It makes perfect sense. Of course, you never know what you see on the TV, but it seems like that’s the consensus of the world. And if you want to question the entire consensus of the world, then, you know, that’s another, that’s a whole other can of worms there, you know.

2:47Now what I can speak on is through my TikTok feed, I’ve seen a video on, very popular on TikTok, the school of the girls getting bombed, and all the comments were people just saying, I’m so sorry, we do not support this, like, it’s him, it’s not us. Like you said, you don’t know what’s real these days because of misinformation, but I do find that very interesting that that’s kind of the narrative that we’re in right now.

3:20I hope that we will be able to come together in some way or another. That’s kind of what we’re working on. There’s different ways to do it. Protesting is a classic one that seems to work a lot of the time, but there are limits. So I hope to see other solutions. And that’s kind of, that’s why I’m here today is to push these alternative solutions that might break the mold, I guess, and experiment with ways to mobilize people in the future. in a more effective way, I guess. Okay, and do you have any last messages for the community here in Denver? I mean, I would love to plug my project.

3:55So, I’m working with this very small, grassroots startup. We are Civil Engine, and we have an app that aims to stop World War III from happening. This is a concept I’ve had for a few years. It’s called World Pact. And the concept is pretty simple actually. Every week a bunch of people that are part of this community, it’s a worldwide movement hopefully someday, will take collective action and do something that forwards the political goals of the people. And so that could be something like everybody, like a thousand or a million people write a letter to their congressmen, they boycott a company, there’s no telling what you can do.

4:38But it’s community-based, so anyone can go on our app and create a pact, and if enough people vote for it, then it becomes the weekly pact, and then everybody kind of takes this collective action together. I think that’s a way to make a real difference, and so we have like an offshoot called Peace Pact, which is part of our thing, worldpact.org, and it’s specifically geared to take actions to stop the war. So you know, a lot of people are very scared of World War III happening, and we’re kind We’re kind of in this Goldilocks zone of having a chance to stop it before it gets worse. It’s already becoming a world war. So this is our chance. So please check out worldpact.org slash peace. Check out the peace pact flow. Join our movement and let’s all do this together. If we share this and enough people are part of this pact, then we will stop the war. I truly do believe that. Wow. That was incredible. Thank you so much. Good to meet you, man. Yeah, you too.
