Okay, so there’s a grander narrative for why I got into crypto and like context and yada yada and you’ve heard me tell it before and maybe I’ll put it all on camera later, but what really the the the short story, the TLDR, what really did it for me and maybe realized that I could um go out and work not not maybe not why I got into web3, but why I started working for myself and bet on myself rather than continuing to apply for software engineering jobs for another 6 months was that I got this uh gig working for a young man in Florida.

0:42He was very charismatic young man. I can’t remember for the life of me his name at this point. Um 19-year-old man offered me pay uh 50% of a contract gig that he was offered 10,000 to um run a social media marketing campaign for uh uh an an NFT project. It’s called story something, story DAO. It was a cool idea they got this really large community of people together in Discord and everybody would um write a story every people would compete for their story to be associated with the image of the day. Um and then this model they had with or think an artist, you know, one of the

1:22other was putting out um a few pieces of art every day and people were writing all the lore um and it was all supposed to be minted into a collection. Um and I think it was eventually. But I didn’t stick around for the end of the project because my um con my my my colleague, the one who was contracting me, um I for like I think his name was like Aaron or Adam or something like that with two A’s for no reason.

1:51And he uh kept asking me to do illegal things with tele with uh Twitter. Not like, you know, not like blatantly illegal things, but like break their terms of service and violate their their agreement and spam people and use bots in ways that were dishonest and I told him like a million times that we could take the money that we were given for our our portion of the money that we were paid and and actually run a paid marketing campaign on Twitter, which is what you’re supposed to do with when you run campaigns. It’s like doesn’t actually cost that much money. You know, I made

2:25that case to him for a few weeks and when he realized I wasn’t going to build him the janky pseudo illegal automations that he wanted, he dipped. He just dipped. With that with their money. Didn’t pay me, took their [bleeped] or took their 10 grand, excuse my French. And and bounced. And I talked to the guys afterwards, the the team that had contracted him in the first place, and I’m like, you know, tried to get a sense of how they had vetted him or like what he had promised. And what he promised them was really deliverable. Like with the $15,000 that they paid him overall, the $5,000 on top was more than

3:07enough to run the scale of marketing campaign that they were asking for in on the time frame. And he could have just done it honestly. And I was like, well, if this like total [bleeped] this 19-year-old [bleeped] can go convince clients to pay him $15,000 a month because he has this even just enough technical knowledge to like talk about the products that they want to have. That’s pretty much all this kid had. Was that he knew how to talk about the product. He knew how to talk about the campaign. He didn’t have any technical knowledge at all as far as how to build or develop or even run the

3:43campaign using like Twitter’s website and their paid campaign service. So, yeah, I was just like, at this point man, if if I I would be crazy not to bet on myself. Like crazy. If you can be a 19-year-old boy and and not know stuff except for just how to smart how to talk, and you can get clients $15,000 a month in tech, then maybe I should stop applying for It had been 6 months at that point. Since I got my degree and certification in machine learning and data science in Python. 6 months later, still no job. I probably applied to 150 jobs a day. I wish I’d given up on the applications

4:27way sooner and like just bet on myself. That shit’s scary and hard to do, man. But when you watch someone who’s just like totally [bleeped] off, like succeeding, you’re like, well, I definitely I know if I if I just even provide a little bit of value, I’m going to rock it.
